Make the Most of THIS Day

It’s been one of those incredibly busy seasons. For about 9 weeks, we had something to do or somewhere to go almost every night of the week. Long 14 hour days were the norm and the weekends were almost as busy.

Some of it I was very excited about and some of it I pushed through.

One week, I was counting the days until I could get away for a long awaited retreat in Guntersville- 3 glorious days of stuff I love to do! To get to the fun stuff, though, I had to get through the first couple of days of the week.

That particular week, I was asked to help some students with bowling practice for Special Olympics. So, I loaded the bus and headed off to the bowling alley.

I was there in body, but my heart was not in it.

I hate to admit it, but I wanted to hurry up and get the day over with. I helped, I supported, I cheered- I did my job. On the inside though, I was counting the days and minutes until I could pack my bags to head to the retreat.

God very gently convicted me.

What I had been given to do that day was just as important as what I was waiting to do later in the week.

Rushing through and mentally checking out wasn’t going to make it go by any faster.

What’s more important, I wasn’t fulfilling the ministry that He’d given me to do for that day with my whole heart. It wasn’t that I was letting my coworkers or students down, I was doing my job. Rather, I was letting God down because my heart wasn’t in it, and I wasn’t loving my best for the sake of Christ.

That’s when God said “Make the most of THIS day”.

God has tasked me with lots of different opportunities. Some of them are easy to do and come naturally. Some of them are super exciting. Some of them are tedious and not so fun. But in everything God has called me to do, He’s asking me to give my best to each one whether it’s my favorite or not.

Here are 3 things to remember to help you make the most of this day-

Be Present– Don’t mentally check out. It’s so easy, right? Don’t do it. Be fully there.

Give 100%– Give your best in every situation- not just the opportunities you really enjoy.

Each day has its purpose– Every opportunity is equally important to God. Treat it that way.

Our busy season has slowed way down. After a great break, I’m rested up and ready to jump back into another season full of opportunities. No matter what God gives me to do each day, I’m going to make the most of it!

What about you?

Are you making the most out of each day?

Is your heart fully in it?

I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment in the WoW Facebook group over here where we can talk about it more.
